DEMOCRATIC SCHOOL 2020-2022
The project DEMOCRATIC SCHOOL focuses on democratic culture, media education and literacy, and active citizenship. The aim is to help students develop their competencies and skills in these areas, encourage them to fulfill their potential as active contributors of the media content and to become productive members of their community inside and outside school. The project also provides support to teachers by addressing their professional needs related to the area of democratic culure at schools. TARGET GROUP
STUDENTS
Discussions with experts, project days on topics related to volunteering and media education, volunteer days outside the school, sharing examples of good practice on an online platform, visiting a selected democratic institution, preparation and implementation of a schoolwide conference
TEACHERS
Thematic workshops, participation in the creation and piloting of activities focused on democratic culture, media education and open classroom climate, continuous support of a Democratic Guide – an expert in the development of democratic culture
THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY
Organizing a schoolwide conference for the broader community of/around the school – the school management, teachers, parents, students from other classes
BENEFITS AND OUTPUTS OF THE PROJECT
FOR STUDENTS
Improving key competences to build democratic culture with an emphasis on active citizenship, volunteering and media literacy; an online platform presenting opportunities, tips and examples of good practice regarding volunteering in your area and in the online environment
FOR TEACHERS
Support for the development of methodological and didactic competencies needed for the growth of democratic culture in schools; a handbook with activities and worksheets focusing on democratic culture and cross-curricular media education
FOR THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY
Strengthening active cooperation within the school community
